1 Week to go until entries open for the 2022 Community Radio Awards

Entries open on the 9th of May for the seventh national Community Radio Awards, sponsored by PlayoutONE.

Volunteers and stations from up and down the country are being urged to enter the best of their output from the past year and consider those team members deserving of special recognition.

Martin Steers, awards Founder and Chair, said: “It’s great to be gearing up to open the seventh community radio awards, it doesn’t seem that long ago that we were celebrating last year’s winners at our face-to-face awards in Coventry and here we go again!

As ever it’s always exciting to see the fantastic range of submissions from across the sector, we can not wait to start receiving them.

We are also proud to be expanding the awards as we look forward to seeing the sector growing digitally”

For 2022, there are two changes to the awards; now that DAB Community Stations have launched (via C-DSP licenses) they are fully entitled to enter the awards, and there is also a special category to mark how community stations have responded post covid with the rebuilding of their communities and themselves.

Submissions are open from the 9th of June and close 30th June.  You can head to the submission site and follow the instructions to submit your entries either as a station or as an individual from a station.

The submissions are £5 per entry, and we aim for that to be accessible for Community Radio, for those stations that want to fund the awards for their volunteers, or for those volunteers who are happy and able to pay themselves.

Station of the Year and Digital or RSL Station Of the Year are both free to enter categories.

The deadline for this year’s Honours, the separate awards to honour those who have made an outstanding contribution to community radio is also the 30th of June, and details can be found here communityradioawards.org.uk/honours

Entries will be checked and sorted in July when the judging process starts. A shortlist of 5 for each category will then be produced and published prior to the ceremony, based on our independent judging process.

The judging panel is made up of more than 70 volunteers from charities, community radio, commercial radio, and BBC radio, who give their time to help recognise and reward our sector. No community radio judge will score an entry from their station, and several judges will listen to each entry. The awards are always looking for more people to volunteer to join their judging pool and anyone interested should get in touch.
